System Player
There are two basic types of portable DVD player that you will find available. One type looks similar to a laptop computer and is a single screen, all in one unit. The other choice you have when it comes to DVD players for on the go is a dual screen portable DVD player. These units have a single player and two separate mountable screens. Which is the better choice? Both are popular and ultimately it comes down to what you need. Let’s take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of each type in the areas that matter most.
Mounting
Two different types of DVD players require a different setup to be mounted in your vehicle. An all in one model can be mounted between the front two seats and usually requires the use of a tray or lift to keep it in place and visible at eye level.
Mounting a dual screen player will require you to attach each screen to the back of each front seat. This is done with a mounting kit that typically makes use of a Velcro strap or similar device to hold them in to place.
Overall, there isn’t much difference in the complexity of the two types of installations.
Portability
For taking your player with you around the house or anywhere besides the car, the all in one portable DVD variety has a strong advantage. This design is much more flexible and portable than the dual screen model. You simply take it with you, no messy un-installation required. This type is also good for folks who plan to switch the player between vehicles.
Ease Of Use
If you have a larger vehicle such as an SUV or minivan, a dual screen model may be a better choice because each side of the vehicle can have a clear view of their own screen without straining their necks to watch.
An all in one player works just fine for small cars and has the advantage of having the controls right there next to the picture.
Screen Size
If a bigger screen is what you are after, most all in one models have larger viewing areas than their double screen counterparts. In the two screen setup, each screen is generally smaller than what you would find on an all in one. That said, considering the fact that in any vehicle you won’t be far away from either type of screen, the size is not a huge deal as both are easy to see from just a few feet away.
